Merry Christmas

December 22, 2013

Santa will be packing his bags now getting ready for the big trek.. Full of goodies for all those beautiful & well behaved Border collies!!

Tui & her Mum Trinity

Tui & her Mum Trinity

It is hot & dusty here already & this is just the start of summer. I am excitedly waiting the arrival of Tui’s pups now- only a week to go. She isn’t looking very big so I expect a small litter & for her first litter that is fine.. I hope it goes well for her. As you can see she is pretty relaxed about it all & although uncomfortable looking  she  is great. I loved this pic of her with her Mum Trinity just lying in the sun..

We have great reports back from Shiraz & Rileys last litter.. full on & challenging which is nothing less than we expected..

So Christmas day will come & go.. we have family here which we are looking forward to & then of course Tui will be our main focus.

Hopefully I will get some  pictures & updates of those Tylerwild kids now that you are on holiday!!!

We have a Rhodesian Ridge-back staying who we call horse.. You may spot him in the photos as he looks somewhat out of place here!!! Certainly quite different than our Guys…

Hard to believe Riley turned 3 the other week where has the time gone.. He is a fine looking young man now. He is about to be a Dad again too so I am eagerly waiting to hear news of those arrivals..

I wish everyone a very merry & safe Christmas.. Don’t forget your four legged friends & don’t over feed or over heat them..

Pups in their new homes

November 27, 2013

Firstly I would like to introduce a new member to our family.. Lani. I have just made her page up so check her out.. She’s a honey…

Seems a bit quiet here these days without the little fellows. They all seem to have adjusted &  settling well into their new homes. Most of the comments have been ‘ they are very bright & will be challenging as they get older’!!!

We had a few talkers in this litter too & Tara made me laugh when in her email she said Bella talks back to her when is been told off!!! hmmm little madam!!

I have really enjoyed & loved the photos back so far . I hope you all keep them up as the years go on!! Here are some of the pups as they left.

Ranger & Finn had a long trip & flew down to Dunedin together. Thank you very much to Anne, (Donna’s sister) for the fantastic little video clips & photos of the pups arrival. Anne & her family came up from Oamaru & collected Diesel from me a while back & she knows how much I worry about my little friends safety.. I would never fly my pups due  to one bad experience many years back & Anne helped me overcome it!! I will fly them now but I do spend a lot of time getting the pups use to being crated & travelling before hand.

Anyway all are good & of course now I can start getting excited about Tui’s arrivals just after Xmas It is still early days for her but Xmas will be here before we know it.. eechh

7wks old & too cute

October 28, 2013

Ohh wow.  What a gorgeous bunch of kids.. Well done Shiraz & Riley..

My dear little Molly however prefers to spend more time with them than their mother!! Micheal is well a tad wary of them now.. They are so excited to see him &.. as you will see from his face.. it hurts!! Very cute. They are all just a delight. They start going next w/e & the following the next w/e so I will be sad..

Tui has come on heat so we are hoping to mate her next..

I think the photos say it all… enjoy!

4 weeks old

October 7, 2013

They are a pretty full time job now. I am feeding them 4 times a day & that comes around pretty quick. Shiraz comes & goes as she feels the need.. Often she is in & out pretty quick & by the feel of those sharp claws & teeth I don’t blame her.

They are growing with confidence every day & now they venture right out the puppy run.

I keep their bed area as clean as possible & already they are learning to go out on the grass to go to the toilet. Their bed itself they are starting to  keep pretty clean..They aren’t so keen when it dark at night mind you.. So the newspaper comes in handy for them just outside their whelping box!!  If I leave the light on for them they seem much better!! Just like babies.

So cute & getting so cuddly.. They come running out as soon as they hear us open the gate.

We have Greg’s little Grandson Micheal here & now they are up & about he is starting to enjoy them. It will be interesting to see them next week when they are that much stronger & biting a bit more.. He may  find them a bit rough but at this stage he is the stronger one. I had to laugh when I looked at the photos & saw one of the pups Jess drinking from his juice cup!! Now that’s sharing for you!!

I have one very cute red male still available. Email me for more pics.

7 Beautiful dark red pups

7 newborn puppies

7 newborn puppies

My clever Shiraz on Sunday the 8th produced 7 fantastic babies. What a relief… Having lost 6 pups in her last litter with Riley we were a tad worried but my perseverance in stopping her jumping paid off.  From the moment we mated them I kept Shiraz on the lead out the gates.. Last time she landed heavily on the gates late in her pregnancy & we suffered the consequences.

During the last week of her pregnancy I also kept her on the lead during our walks too she she couldn’t take off after bunnies & do what they all normally do…

So in the early hours 4am!!! last Sunday she popped out a 200g girl. No 3 pup was a problem & we knew it was stuck. A walk outside didn’t seem to help & so as I held her tight.. Greg managed to dislodge & pullout out a whooping great 380g boy. Poor Shiraz did not like that & cried.( & Greg was shaking!!)..the pup had come out of his sac & if we had left it too much longer we would have lost him & possibly the remaining 4… Vigorous rubbing bought him round & he was soon latched on to Mum.. His new Mum & Dad to be, Karen & Grant came to visit him yesterday…

The remaining 4 pups all between 230g & 240g arrived without a hitch. Riley once again now a proud father of 7.. 4 girls & 3 boys.. All the pups will be a dark red when they get older.. No light blondies in this lot.. so they will look pretty alike as they get older!!..

The pups are doing really as is Mum & she is being such a good Mum. We moved the pups out into the puppy run at 3 days old (we normally keep them inside with us till 3 wks) because we have Gregs very lively 1 1/2yr old  Grandson staying with us & I think to be fair.. Shiraz just needed the space… It has been quite funny watching young Micheal’s reaction to the pups as he  just loves all the big dogs but he doesn’t really know what to make of these little creatures.. I mean they don’t even really look like dogs!!

Two weeks ago we also saved a lamb who’s mother died during birthing. She had twins -one lamb was dead & now have a lonesome fellow to look after. He was in the puppy-house initially so as to keep him warm & sheltered but I have since relocated him.. It wont be long till he will have to move out with his own kind as we will need the run for my pups & can probably do without a fruit cake lamb there!! Riley is intrigued with him…

Two weeks to go & Shiraz’s babes will be with us. She is starting to fill out now & we have been pretty strict with her as far jumping goes & on the lead. My dogs are very lucky & aren’t  very often walked on the lead but Shiraz  has worn a collar so I can stop her jumping easily. I hate them wearing collars so once the babies are born I look forward to taking it off her again.

So often I go to take a photo & the moment is gone but digital now allows you to just keep clicking!! I have sometimes got some pretty weird looking faces so I thought Id share them. If these were people they would kill me so please don’t tell my dogs I have posted these!!!

We have got Greg’s 1 1/2 yr old Grandson  Micheal staying with us at the moment. He loves the dogs & they well…umm.. sometimes its mutual but most of the time they prefer to keep out of his way….At 1 1/2 he is pretty full on & we have to curb his enthusiasm at times!! Riley loves him & will often clean bowl him with his love!!! Tyler is also incredibly patient & doesn’t even seem to mind him sitting on her.. Hoons went to hide in a cage but right in after him was Michael.. It did look very cute!!! Poor old Hoons.

And these are just a couple of pics of the beautiful parents to be.. I can’t wait to see their puppies… & with their friends…

Brrrrr winter blast

July 10, 2013

Well what an amazing array of weather. From the driest summer I can remember to rain & more rain & now its cold &  well yesterday it was actually pretty hot out in the sun. I got down to a singlet out with the dogs in the morning & back into winter woollies for their evening walk.

We had a wonderful time with our pups from Trinity & Charlie. The pups were so lucky as they had 2 Mums & also they had little Molly who would spend every moment she could with them if she was allowed.. She is a lot gentler with them now but I still had to keep an eye as she would get a bit over excited and pounce on them. We celebrated Mollies 1st birthday the end of last month. Where has the time gone..

Gorgeous bunch

Gorgeous bunch

Pups are all in their new homes and creating all those puppy challenges that pups do!! We had one of the boys here till 11 weeks & he was a delight. I think Id like to keep them all till that age!!! Actually on 2nd thoughts maybe not..

Two of the pups went to homes where a Tylerwild pup already resides. Phinn has gone to Janet with Gemma. Maree very kindly transported Phinn down to New Plymouth for Janet. Gemma being a little Gem & now Phinn being a whirlwind is keeping Janet on her toes & I will have to admit I have had lots of laughs from Janets emails & the antics going on down there!!

Trevor who has young Ruadh has now added Bonnie to his family.. must be the 2nd child syndrome as I think she is also adding new challenges to Trevors world!!

Some lovely families & I do hope they will continue to keep in touch with me over the years..

But we have great news in the fact Shiraz has come into season & we have mated her & Riley again. Shiraz is quite a jumper so she will be on tight security this pregnancy & sadly for her put on the lead quite a lot..

Pups first Real food meal

First meal

First meal

Well what a hassle. Day after the pups were born my left arm was cut off.. ie I lost my computer!! However back again & with loads of photos to send around…

The 2 litters are now as one!! I have moved them into the puppy run & started them on real food & so far so good. It is nice having them inside & listening to them talking & having them so readily available for cuddles but they need more room now & once they are on solids they do have to be outside.

I have some pups still available for homes so please email or phone me. Black pups all homed. catherine@bordercollie.co.nz  or 07 549 3131… keep trying me as I may be out in the puppy run!!!

We have had  2 visiting dogs staying for the last month. Rayley (Charlie/Hoons daughter) & Charke (Shiraz/ Bruce son). With pups & also a girl on heat it was a rather challenging & busy time!!! Lovely dogs & I enjoyed getting to know them & their cuddles…

It was lovely to meet Terry & his 2 girls Gemma & Ellie. They are looking forward to taking their little pup Max home. It was a long trip for them to come & visit so thanks Guys for such a great effort..

Charlie & Trinity’s pups have arrived

April 6, 2013

As I predicted both on the same day!! However it wasn’t all easy sailing as I shall explain.

Charlie's mob

Charlie’s mob

Trinity's mob

Trinity’s mob

Friday morning arrived & Trinity still wasn’t showing any signs of going into labor. Charlie on the other hand was very restless & just wanted to disappear out the section & down a hole so I knew she was on the way!!

I rang & spoke with Tony(my vet)  & because she had uterine inertia last time, caused possibly by the over-sized pups there was a strong chance the same thing would happen again. This means she would not push the pups out & also because she got so stretched last time if the pups got stressed it could rupture inside. So the decision had to be made to either do it now (Friday) or risk leaving her till Monday when her milk would be in more & hope she wouldn’t come into labor midnight on Sat with not my vet on call..

I made the call to do it Friday.. (if you heard rumbling in the hills it was probably my heart beat!!) I am pleased I made that call.. So 2.30 I took her in & left Greg at home to deal with an ever increasing nesting/panting Charlie…

Everything went really well with Trinity & Tony had 5 beautiful BIG pups out in no time. They were very slow in coming round & sadly one red girl didn’t. However Trinity & Riley produced 2 healthy chocolate boys, 1 red boy & 1 red girl. All around the 450gms.  Tony showed me Trinitys horn & how thin it was so it would have ruptured under stress. I had Trinity spayed which although is sad to think she wont produce any more pups I’d rather have her  then more pups.

I got home not long after 5pm & poor Trinity was very sore & unhappy. She would lick the pups & let them feed but she would cry so she was feeling sore. We stayed with her all night & not a peep from the pups so obviously her milk came in which had been my original concern.

9.30pm Charlie popped her first pup out on the couch.. as usual! It looked like a little pip squeak compared to Trinitys monsters!! weighing in at 220gms. So it was all go here yesterday.. Charlie did very well & by 12am she had had 5 pups.. sadly one black girl died shortly after arriving. She had difficulty breathing so her lungs wouldn’t have been developed . She was still pretty restless so I knew she hadn’t finished. 2.45 no 5 arrived. We have 2 black girls, 1 black boy, 2 red boys.

So all up 9 pups & quite a mixture. Mums today are both doing really well. Trinity is more relaxed & being a super Mum again.

The temperature has dropped so we have got the heating up keeping the pups warm.

Mum of the Mums feels pretty exhausted!!!! 5am I crashed on the bed next to Trinity.. not used to these late nights!!
